📅 Season-by-Season Guide

What to expect each season in Shenzhen

🌸

Spring (Mar–May)

Temperature: 18–28°C
Humidity: Rising, 60–80%

Pleasant weather with occasional showers. March is ideal — warm but not yet humid. May starts the rainy season. Light layers recommended. Bring an umbrella.

☀️

Summer (Jun–Aug)

Temperature: 28–35°C
Humidity: Very high, 80–95%
Rain: Heavy, typhoon risk

Hot, sticky, and rainy. Typhoon season (Jul–Sep) can bring strong winds and heavy rain. Indoor activities (malls, museums) are great escapes. Always carry an umbrella. Stay hydrated.

🍂

Autumn (Sep–Nov) ⭐ Best

Temperature: 20–30°C
Humidity: Comfortable, 50–70%
Rain: Decreasing

The best time to visit Shenzhen. Comfortable temperatures, low humidity, clear skies. October and November are ideal for outdoor activities and sightseeing. Light clothing with a thin jacket for evenings.

🧣

Winter (Dec–Feb)

Temperature: 10–20°C
Humidity: Moderate, 40–60%
Rain: Low

Mild by Northern standards but locals find it cold (no central heating indoors). Layers are key — a warm jacket for outdoors, light sweater for indoors. Sunny and dry.

What to know and how to stay safe

Typhoon Warning System

Shenzhen uses a 5-level typhoon warning system:

  • White (IV): Typhoon may affect the area within 48 hours — stay informed
  • Blue (III): Expected within 24 hours — prepare to stay indoors
  • Yellow (II): Expected within 12 hours — avoid outdoor activities
  • Orange (I): Expected within 6 hours — stay indoors, secure windows
  • Red (Special): Direct hit expected — emergency measures activated

Most typhoons pass near Shenzhen without causing major damage. The city has excellent infrastructure. Follow your hotel's instructions and stay indoors during Orange or Red warnings. Public transport may be suspended temporarily.

🌬️ Air Quality

Shenzhen's air quality is among the best in major Chinese cities, thanks to strict environmental regulations and its coastal location. AQI typically ranges from 30–80 (Good to Moderate).

Check real-time air quality at aqicn.org/city/shenzhen/. Very sensitive individuals may want to bring a mask for occasional hazy days, but most visitors will not need one.
